The predicted ranks of your son is around 68000. The opening and closing ranks of NIT, Trichy in the year 2018 for ECE were 2473 and 6667 respectively. While in NIT, Surathkal these were 2590 and 6413.
The final marks cutoff and ranks will come after April-2019 JEE-Main exam. Hence be positive everything will be fine.

Your Predicted Rank is 3846 JEE Main Percentile 99.56, AIR, GEN). Above is the possible rank you can get. The final rank will be based on the best of the scores of JEE-Mains January 2019 and April 2019 exam. The predicted rank may vary due to JEE Main tie breaker rules for same score. Kindly wait for the JEE Mains April 2019. In the meanwhile, follow the link: https://www.shiksha.com/b-tech/resources/jee-mains-college-predictor.
