My son wants to join MBA in finance and banking. Is it a good choice? What minimum percentile is required in CAT to get admission?

Presently, he is studying BBA (final year) & CAT coaching simultaneously.

The minimum requirement for a good MBA college is 70 percentile in CAT. Over it is always a better option. Those colleges will provide you 2-year PGDM course. In those 2 years, you can decide your area of specialisation. If he is very fond of banking and finance then SSBF (Pune) is the best option for him. Related to banking, NIBM is also a good option. For SSBF, he has to appear for SNAP exam.

    Hi,
Of course it is a great option. He can work with RBI, SEBI, NABARD and other PSU. Private Banks also look out for well-qualified professionals and pay them lucrative salaries. Fir details about CAT percentile, you can click here https://www.shiksha.com/mba/articles/minimum-cat-2015-percentile-required-for-admissions-at-iims-blogId-11265.

A good percentile would be close to 70 for admission to a good institute, but then candidate profile matters after the initial screening as the weightage to CAT percentile is not more that 12percentile by most of the B-Schools. Finance and Banking is a good choice but if he has a technical bend of mind then he can look at FINTECH as an option from a B-School recognized by AICTE. Analysts are the best paid these days and FINTECH would give him that edge.

60 percentile in CAT is the minimum requirement, but you must prepare him for 90+ percentile to get in to top colleges across your state. Good luck.

In general, as per available education sources, the CAT cutoff for FLAME University lies around 70–75 percentiles for the 2025 admissions. Though this score helps the candidates qualify for the shortlisting stage, FLAME follows a holistic selection process; hence, the final admission also depends on academic records, interviews, and overall profile strength.
