One of my relative says that mechatronics is not a proper subject and it is also tougher than other engineering branches, is it?

Maybe, he is correct. Mechatronics is a combination of Mechanics and electronics. So it is better than Mechanics and electronics. And at the same time it is tougher than mechanics and electronics. Usually recruiting companies prefers mechatronics students than mechanics & electronics. If u r good in studies and aimed about your future. Take this course and don't get confused in your aim and keep your mind study rather that hopping. Good luck!

You need to see the syllabus of mechatronics engineering. It is not that hard as students think. Yes it have some of electrical and mechanical subjects. If you think that you need to write codes in Java, SQL etc. Then its not at all true. Mechatronics engineering is all about the systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering. Mechatronics engineering differs from automation engineering in that its practitioners have a deep understanding of the performance analysis and design of complex machines. It differs from mechanical engineering in that its practitioners understand how automations can be designed and integrated into a machine very effectively to achieve an outcome. A mechatronics engineer is capable of thinking holistically about a mechatronic system, rather than focusing on certain domain specific elements such as the mechanical system or the software. An understanding of how to model a system from a power perspective (rather than thinking in terms of voltages or forces) is fundamental to this.

Mechatronics is a proper Engineering subject in which you learn how to make different Mechanical parts. It is not so tough but you have to do daily Study for that. Best of luck for your future and if there's any query, feel free to ask.
