mass communication is where you learn about radio, tv etc...the electronic means of communication.
journalism is basically writing news articles or stories about media
journalism uses mass communication to disseminate news or news entertainment content. TV, Radio, Newspapers.

Hi,
Mass Communication is a holistic term which encompasses Advertising, PR, Journalism, Events etc.
Journo and Events are just aspects of the bigger Mass Communication umbrella. So one has to decide whether you wish to study only one aspect or you want an indepth knowledge of several areas.
