Power Engineering after M.Tech from IIT or join NTPC after B.tech and GATE?

Hello, I'm doing my B.Tech from VNIT, Nagpur. I want to pursue my career in Power engineering, like working in a Thermal Power plant. I'm studying for GATE, and, whether I go for NTPC after my GATE, or I do M.Tech from IIT. and then NTPC. I mean promotions in PSU are more fast for M.Tech employees.

I would suggest to choose Power engineering after M.Tech form IIT. That would open larger avenus for you in your career. The NTPC job is good but would be of a routine kind.
