A bullet of 10g, moving with velocity v, collides head-on with the stationary bob of a pendulum and recoils with velocity 100 m/s. The length of the pendulum is 0.5m and mass of the bob is 1kg. The minimum value of v = _____m/s so that the pendulum describes a circle.

Velocity of bob after collision,

v1 = 5 g R = 5 * 1 0 * 0 . 5 = 5 m / s

From Conservation of Momentum,

1 0 1 0 0 0 * v = 1 0 1 0 0 0 * 1 0 0 + 1 * 5

->v = 400 m/s
