Even though mechanical engineering appears to be the first choice. The total number of students, who graduated in mechanical engineering is good, while only handful passes out as aeronautical engineers. In India, a large number of companies will require this specialization. Hence, if opportunities appear to be a bit less at the moment, future holds a great potential for this discipline in India.

Yes, its a good option but it will be better if you do your 12th and then B.Tech engineering because in many courses. They ask for 12th as an eligibility criteria.
