To become an IAS officer you have to appear in Civil Service Exam.
The Civil Service Examination is organized by UPSC every year to recruit candidate for IAS, IPS etc.
Academic Qualification:
The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in any field from a well known college or university.
You can opt fro graduation in any stream.
Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would render them educationally qualified for the Commission's examination but have not been informed of the results as also the candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination.
-Age Limits:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, in the year of examination.
Number of attempts:
Every candidate appearing at the examination who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted four attempts at the examination.
Selection Process
The Civil Services Exam is a paper based test and consists of two successive stages:
(i) CSAT (Objective type) comprising 2 exams : General Studies
(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview)
CSAT-Prelim:
-Paper 1 is on General Studies
This includes areas like Indian National Movement, Indian Polity, Basic Economic Understanding, Geography
While the dynamic part includes current affairs, GK and has no proper definition and syllabus making quite vast.
-Paper 2 includes mathematics, reasoning, analytical ability, and interpersonal skills. Unlike paper 1 which has a static part, paper 2 is dynamic in many sense.
The Main exam will consist of :

Hi Tejal,
UPSC exams are very tough and require a lot of hard work and dedication. It is not so that you will require a safe career as a back support but yes to be eligible for the Civil Services, you will require to be a graduate degree holder from a recognized University.
Being a graduate the minimum eligibility will help you in future as well even if you couldn't make it through the UPSC exams as this is the base of education on which you can pursue higher education.
More than anything else, i would advise you to be confident on you hard work and start preparing for the UPSC exams keeping marginal time in hand so that you are able to analyze how to go about it and observe your weak and strong areas and can develop those as well.

There are various manners in which you can study biotechnology - like you can opt for undergraduate Biotechnology courses which includes B.Sc, B.E, B.Tech, 5-year integrated B.Tech/M.Tech) and at PG level (Msc/ M.Tech). You can also pursue specialized courses at research level. Biotechnology offers PG courses, which you can opt for after graduating in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Microbiology. After your PG, you can go in for PhD after which you can go in for Post-doctoral research. Here, we would like to mention that students usually prefer to do PhD and Post-doctoral research from abroad. Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur, offers post-graduate progamme in Biotechnology and successful candidate are eligible for the award of M.Sc. (Agri.) Biotechnology degree. The courses are innovative and cover basic, fundamental and specialized topics. Submission of thesis dissertation based on research projects carried out by students is part of the degree programme. The students are eligible for award of fellowship of Rs.1200/- per month given by DBT. The minimum eligibility for the course is: Bachelor's degree under 10+2+4 / 5 pattern of education in Agriculture Biotechnology, Veterinary, Dairy Technology, Horticulture, Forestry with at least 55% marks OR equivalent grade from a recognized University.
