Hi, an aerospace engineer deals with the design, analysis, construction, testing and operation of aircraft. The course is based on fundamentals of fluid dynamics, propulsion, electronics, automatic control and guidance. This course does not prepare one to become a pilot or a maintenance engineer. The course is offered at IIT Chennai, Mumbai, Kanpur and Kharagpur. Admission to these courses is based on engineering entrance test conducted by IIT JEE, AIEEE and State level CET. Regarding Job prospects aerospace engineers can be employed with DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) or NAL (National Aeronautical Laboratories). After completing a degree course in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, you can do the Masters' in Aerospace Engineering. There are greater job opportunities for aerospace engineers, with many private companies entering the field of aircraft and defence vehicles manufacturing. Aerospace engineering is the branch of engineering behind the design, construction and science of aircraft and spacecraft. Aerospace engineering has broken into two major and overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. The former deals with craft that stay within Earth's atmosphere, and the latter deals with crafts that operate outside of Earth's atmosphere. While "aeronautical" was the original term, the broader "aerospace" has superseded it in usage, as flight technology advanced to include craft operating in outer space.
