The basic eligibility for admission to B.Sc General or honour's, 10+2 with Science either in non-medical or medical subjects with at least 50% marks.
To start a career in Geology, one should complete at least a masters in Geology such as M.A. or M. Sc. in Geology. While a bachelor's degree in Geology will secure some entry-level positions, the better qualified you are, the better position you can secure. Students interested in a professional career in the Geosciences should prepare to continue their education into advanced degrees. A master's degree is required for major professional entry-level positions, a Ph.D. is necessary for university teaching and to secure higher-level research positions.
The field of Geology offers various career options to the candidates who are interested in learning different features of the earth. Geologists are placed in different organizations in the role of demographers, agricultural specialists, urban and regional planners and remote sensing specialists, etc. They can also work in research and government sectors.
Geologists can also seek placement in research agencies such as environmental issues, population studies and rural development. Teaching profession can be undertaken in universities, colleges and schools for those who are geographers. Post- graduate students can also start their own coaching institutes.
Initially the remuneration is low but increases gradually with experience and further studies.
