Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) is used as an entrance examination for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes such as B Tech degree in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, and Marine Engineering offered by IMU campuses and affiliated institutes.
The aspirants who have cleared 10+2 or equivalent with minimum 50% in English and 60% marks in PCM, and also those awaiting their Class 12th or UG final exam results are eligible to apply for this entrance test.
IMU CET 2015 is scheduled to be conducted on May 9 from 2pm to 5pm in the afternoon and the eligible students interested in pursuing B Tech in aforementioned universities or institutes can register themselves online and fill the online application form on the official website of IMU. The last date for registering online is April 22, 2015.
Please note that selecting a particular institute depends on your personal preference, however you may consider some of the below mentioned points while selecting a institute for CET coaching:
- Teaching methodology.
- Faculty members.
- Study material.
- Tuition fees.
If possible, you may personally visit these institutes and talk to the students studying there and take there feedback regarding teaching methodology, faculty members, study material etc all these may help you to decide which institute to join.

There are various career options available these days. However, I would recommend that you first concentrate on your 10th standard as it is very crucial in setting up a firm foundation. Before you decide what to do after 10th std, it is important that you become aware of a critical factor for success in your chosen profession. Your exam scores are one part of it considering how competitive it is to land a seat in the hallowed campuses of the IITs and other prestigious institutions. Lack of strong understanding of the basics will hinder your ability to grasp the advanced topics that will be covered in college. For this reason alone, it is important that you take your 10th, 11th & 12th studies seriously.
Science, Commerce & Humanities are the three streams available after 10th for 11th & 12th class studies.
I see a strong inclination towards Science from your end. With the combination of biology, physics and chemistry you can take up medicine, dentistry, Pharmacy, agricultural science, dairy science or biological sciences (biochemistry, biotechnology, Microbiology). Apart from doing the degree level courses you can also choose degree courses, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, computer, business administration, hotel management, tourism management etc. you can also opt for courses outside the university stream, such as hotel management, fashion technology, industrial design, packaging, aircraft maintenance engineering, government accredited computer courses and a host of post 10 + 2 level vocational courses. To get admission in the top medical college in India you would need to score above 90% in 12th and do very well in entrance exam.
With a PCM combination of subjects, you can pursue almost any field you set your mind on. You can ofcourse do Engineering which is a professional degree and has streams such as Electrical, Mechanical, Electronic and Communication etc. You can do your graduation in subjects of your interest, even switching to Humanities or Commerce streams if you so desire. You can do a BCA (Computer Applications), BBA (Business Administration), Law, Civil Aviation – Pilot, Astronomy, Architecture, Design, Mass Communication, Merchant Navy, Defense Forces, Psychology, Civil Services etc.
To decide on the course, you should analyse your strengths, career goals, interests, personality, aptitude and ability.
