I suggest you take up coaching classes and then appear for IELTS test. The ielts test would be more relevant to Australian universities as the test is typically based on British english, while PTE tests follow American English.

The Basic eligibility criteria to join Merchant Navy is:
Aspirant must have passed 12th class with physics, chemistry and maths as their main subject.
They must have completed their graduation in the field of Marine Engineering or Nautical Science to join the engineering or navigation fields in the merchant navy.
