Astronautics, and related astronautical engineering, is the theory and practice of navigation beyond the Earth's atmosphere. In other words, it is the science and technology of space flight.
The term astronautics was coined by analogy with aeronautics. As there is a certain degree of technology overlapping between the two fields, the term aerospace is often used to describe them both.
As with aeronautics, the restrictions of mass, temperatures, and external forces require that applications in space survive extreme conditions: high-grade vacuum, the radiation bombardment of interplanetary space, the magnetic belts of low Earth orbit. Space launch vehicles must withstand titanic forces, while satellites can experience huge variations in temperature in very brief periods. Extreme constraints on mass cause astronautical engineers to face the constant need to save mass in the design in order to maximize the actual payload that reaches orbit.
Aeronautics and aerospace are overlapping and related field. India does not have any institute offering Astronautics course but USA and UK have. What you can do is to ask your son to do B.Tech. in aeronautical from IIT kanpur and then do post graduation from USA. Alternatively, he can pursue UG degree from USA.
Qualifying exam for IITs is IIT-JEE for which forms will be available shortly. For abroad study, he will have to give on line SAT and TOEFL exams. You can avail all information on SAT from www.sat.org and for TOEFL from www.toefl.org

Pursuing studies abroad is always a good option, the main reason for seeking a degree from abroad are:

If you're creative, you can consider going for Design and Animation. However, you must first check if you're suited for Animation. Animation is an art form and a very demanding career. It has ample opportunities for the creatively talented people. Teachers having B.Ed degrees or other teacher training certificates after graduation are called Trained Graduate Teachers and are eligible to teach in junior classes in school, while teachers having a teacher training certificate after post graduation are called Postgraduate Trained Teachers and are eligible to teach senior classes in school.
TGT should have a bachelors degree or equivalent from a recognized University with 50% marks or above in aggregate as well as in the concerned subject for recruitment and B.Ed. or equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
PGT requires masters degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate in the concerned or related subjects and B.Ed. or equivalent qualification from a recognized University.
The salaries vary with the qualification and experience levels.
So you can apply for both TGT and PGT as per your background.
