All the branches are good.It depends on your interest and skills whichever field you choose.As a matter of fact Mechanical is the most evergreen branch.Its important to pursue your engg from a reputed college because it will provide you a good placement.Similarly if you pursue your engg from a C grade college then no matter what branch you choose and how brilliant you are you will not get a campus placement and you will struggle to get a job through off-campus recruitment

There are alot of good engineering colleges other than IIT's and NIT's.First of all wait for the merit list that they will declare on 7th july.May be you can get into a good college in your home state.I still belive that there is still a possibility of getting a good college.Just wait for a while(till 7th july).By the way you are a native of which state?
