In case of B.Tech college level admissions at Gauhati University (GU), JEE Main-rank and Assam CEE rank are mandatory, in addition to the fulfillment of 10+2 academic qualification. Admission of the college does not depend only on 12 th percentile. A combination of these national and state level entrance exams is what fills up seats at the university. In particular, JEE Main scores will be used to fill 20 percent of the seats in most of the B.Tech branches (including CSE, ECE, IT and RAI), and rest of the 80 percent of the seats are filled using the scores in Assam CEE. For 1,50,000 rank in JEE for OBC category, some good colleges are IIIT Una, NIT Mizoram, and NIT Meghalaya. These have okay placements, around 6 to 8 LPA for CSE. Fees are near 1.5 to 1.8 Lacs per year. Jadavpur University is also great, with very low fees and good packages. Some private options like LPU are also there with higher fees.

As your son has opted for PCB with applied Maths so he is eligible for engineering courses like B.Tech in Biotechnology, Biomedical, or Environmental Engineering, and in some private colleges, a CS specialisation in BIO/Health Informatics. These match well with his PCB +math subject combo and have reasonable fee options.
