Dear Satya, Selecting any one of Supply Chain Management (SCM) & Material Management (MM) is definitely a challenge as both career is equally important and companies are hiring Individual employee for each work. As per my expertise, I shall emphasise you to go to Supply chain Management which will work better for you. The retail industry is growing in the way that you'll find lucrative career in this.
Before you come on conclusion after reading 1st para of mine, you must understand what is SCM & MM:
Material Management encompasses proper warehousing of assets, inventory spares and consumable products, all related controls and documentation, proper chain of custody as well as care and maintenance of supplies and equipment. This applies whether in an operations or construction platform.
Supply Chain Management adds the responsibilities of proper purchasing practises, minor contract management, supplier/vendor management, logistics and expediting as well as some basic admin-a/p support functions. Supply Chain Management will broadly covers the profile of all movement of products, storage of Raw/processed materials from point of origin to point of consumption.
Now, the question is: The organisation in which you expect new job, is offering you these profile (in-totality) or not?
I am concluding this reply open on the basis of One Golden line:
Construction Industry Institute (CII) says about Material Management; Supply Chain Management is part of Material Management.
SO, Evaluate your skill and GO FOR MATERIAL MANAGEMENT.

* In order to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program from IIMs and other top B-schools in India :
- You must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
- Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally.
* Please note that each IIM shortlists candidates for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other.
The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI).
Performance in CAT examination is an important component in the admission process.
IIMs may use previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process.
The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs.

The selection for IPM is a two stage process. The details are as follows:
Stage I: Aptitude Test (AT)
Objective-type with a total 100 questions in two broad sections, viz., Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. The questions in Quantitative Ability will be only from topics studied till Std X.
Stage II: Personal Interview (PI)
The shortlisted candidates would be called for an interview at one of the 6 interview locations.
The final selection will be based on the overall performance of the applicant in AT and PI.
