I do not find any great logic for such integrated programs. It is only to delay the obvious for 2-3 more years as aspiring candidates fear that they may not get proper employments. Better complete one course, jump in the arena of employment and gain experience before trying for any upgrades.

After diploma in mechanical engineering, you may join lateral B.Tech course in which you can directly enter into the second year. Degree course will open more opportunities for you.
Procedure :
To take admission, there is Lateral Entry Entrance Test or LEET which is conducted at state level. Some colleges and Universities too conduct their own lateral entry tests.
For your reference, below is the list of lateral entry colleges :
-Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology
-Uttaranchal Institute of Technology
-IIMT College of Engineering
-Institution of Electronics and Telecom Engineers
-HMR Institute of Technology and Management
