Hello Hana Malik, in olden times any Certificate that is the xerox copy of the original Certificate needed to be certified by a judicial magistrate or someone in authority like a gazetted officer for it to be considered as authentic. This caused many problems to the common person and the present Indian government did away with this requirement and then said the same person in whose name the Certificate is can certify as authentic and it is being called as self certified.
