Rather than figuring an easy way out by working least and earning most you should rather try to do a SWOT analysis for yourself.
Identify your strengths weaknesses, opportunities and threats>
Basis intrsopection and your education background.you should figure out a field which interests you.
if you choose a field of your preferences and likings.there are high chances that you will grow in the same .

As per your query, I would say that there are many institute specific entrances in order to pursue M.Tech other than GATE. But, it would be advisable to opt for M.Tech after clearing GATE exam as it opens more doors of esteemed universities such as IITs, NITs, IIITs etc.

Ranking of any university is not done based upon courses it is done with respect to other parallel university. Lovely University has been ranked top from last so many consecutive years in number of areas as infrastructure, academics, facilities etc.
