The B.Tech tends to focus more on the practical aspects of learning and offers a greater insight into the subject and is ideally recommended for those who aspire to work in production, design or manufacturing industries. On completing B.Tech, students have multiple choices when they plan to study a postgraduate degree abroad. Students can opt for a Masters programme in their core engineering or allied subject. This could be an MS in engineering, ME or M.Tech. The naming convention for the postgraduate engineering degree varies from country to country. The core essentials remain the same, but a premier institution will offer more facilities, funding for research and enhanced career support services.
Once you decide and if you wish to opt for a postgraduate degree in engineering or management, you can choose to write the GRE or the GMAT. Additionally, you would also have to take the IELTS/TOEFL to demonstrate your proficiency in English. Most institutions accept a score of 6.5 on the IELTS to grant admissions. The GRE scores that popular institutions accept range from 310 to 335. A score above 330 in the GRE is considered excellent. The USA, the UK and Singapore continue to remain top study abroad destinations; tighter immigration and post-study work laws have made Australia lose its sheen among Indian students. Cost of living in Singapore has sky-rocketed and unless you secure admission in a public university, the expenses rank on par with the USA. It is New Zealand that is the biggest winner in the list, as friendly immigration laws and quality education, prompt more students to apply to New Zealand institutions. A fraction of students also opt to study in Germany, Canada and the Netherlands.
