To secure admission in B.Tech Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) at IUST (Islamic University of Science & Technology, Awantipora, J&K), you generally need a JEE Main percentile of around 90–95 for General category and 85–90 for EWS/OBC categories. Below this range, CSE becomes very difficult, though lower branches may still be available.

IUST CSE Admission Cutoff (JEE Main Percentile)

  • General Category:

    • Safe percentile: 90–95+

    • Closing rank usually falls around 40,000–50,000 (All India).

  • EWS/OBC-NCL:

    • Safe percentile: 85–90+

    • Closing rank around 60,000–70,000.

  • SC/ST:

    • Safe percentile: 70–75+

    • Closing rank around 1.2–1.5 l

Since your JEE Main percentile is on the lower side (around 80–83), you won't be able to secure NIT/IIIT CSE seats, but you still have strong options through state counseling and private universities. Let me break down how you can apply and which colleges make sense for you:

 How to Apply

  1. JoSAA/CSAB Counseling (National level):

    • Register on the JoSAA portal after JEE results.
    • Fill choices for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs.
    • At ~80 percentile, you won't get CSE, but you can still try for lower branches in newer NITs.
  2. State Counseling (HSTES, REAP, UPSEE, CAP, etc.):

    • Each state runs its own counseling for government engineering colleges.
    • Example: HSTES

Yes, Bihar students can apply for admission through AUAT (Aliah University Admission Test). The exam is open to all Indian nationals, regardless of state of domicile. Reservation criteria at Aliah University follow West Bengal government norms, not Bihar's, so Bihar students are considered under the “Other State” category with only national-level reservations (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD).

How BTech Admissions Work

  • NITs, IIITs, GFTIs: Admission strictly via JEE Main + JoSAA counseling.

  • State Govt. Engineering Colleges: Admission via state-level exams/counseling (REAP in Rajasthan, HSTES in Haryana, UPSEE in UP, etc.).

  • Private Universities:

    • Some accept CUET scores for general UG courses.

    • For BTech, most rely on JEE Main percentile or their own entrance exams (like VITEEE, SRMJEEE, BITSAT).

    • A few universities (like Galgotias, LPU, CU, Amity) may consider CUET + Class 12 marks for BTech admission, but this is not the mainstream route.
