hi, it takes hardly 1 year to make you good linux admin, but if you want to become a professional expert in it, then let me know your degree or edu backgroung so that, i can suggest you. doing a course & getting a certificate is not big deal, if you want to master in it is important for these days.

Certified Linux Administrator (CLA)
Certified Linux Desktop Administrator (CLDA)
Novell Certified Administrator Enterprise Services (NCA ES)
