Right now i am doing my final year btech mechanical engg. what's your opinion on marine engg as higher studies?

my parents parents have aversion for that field. So i am not confident on opting. some says in marriage market marine engneers are less needed.. some also suggest it is not safe leave new wedded wife alone at house.. iam facing a dilemma.. what's your opinion??
