If you can work for one more year with full dedication and motivation from people around you, then I would suggest take a drop and give your 100%. In the end, luck matters a lot. All the best!

If you have a team or bunch of people, who believe in you and motivate you regularly. Then, study for one more year and you would most probably succeed. Disclaimer: The only problem is motivation throughout the rough patch of one year. If you fall off the horse, you are gone.

Dropping a year is not a good option. Thapar University is very good option in terms of studies and placement.

I think dropping another year would be a waste of your time and hard work, instead you can apply at Thapar University. TU is the oldest private Engineering University and best in India let alone no less than pursue, in fact TUs placement are much better than NITs. If you're getting admission in TU then without wasting another moment you should take it.
