Should I be preparing for IIT JEE or get admission in a college?

I am UP board student. I got 91% in intermediate. I chose PCM. Somebody told me that preparing is just waste of time.

if you are preparing for dropping a year and preparing for IIT JEE then I must tell you it's very very difficult
