GATE is an exam for further studies in engineering and CAT is for management studies.

GATE and you can pursue M.Tech from reputed colleges in your specific branch or you might get a technical job into PSU's. Other than that, if you're more interested in pursuing your career in management, then you can switch from Engineering, and then go for CAT that will get you into good management colleges.
