Should I include personal background in an SOP?

As the statement of purpose is mainly about the programme you are applying for, your motivation for it and the career goals related to it, you do not need to mention about your personal background in the SOP. Only those details of personal life will be included which are related to the course. If you have visited any place during family vacation, and that led to your interest in a particular field, then you can mention about that aspect in the SOP.
