Should I leave an IT job and prepare for a government job?

    It depends on you and your seriousness about getting the government job. If you are from a strong financial background, then leave your private job. If you are not, please don't leave the job. However, if you are confident that you will crack the government exam, then go for it. For a government job Some things, you have to keep in mind viz. AGE and Category. For central government jobs in Group C, where vacancies are more for people over 27, in general, or EWS. If above that age, prepare along with Job. Also, write all state-level exams plus the usual central ones. Do not go for PSU jobs. They are getting privatized anyway, so better
