Should I mention academic gaps or low marks in my SOP?

Yes, it's best to openly discuss any academic gaps, failures, or unexplained changes. Use this as an opportunity to show growth, reflection, and resilience. Rather than ignoring or hiding a dip in grades or a break in your studies, briefly explain the circumstances and, more importantly, emphasise what you learned or how you overcame challenges. Admission panels appreciate honesty and maturity over perfection.
