Should we know computer basics and basic programming before doing B.Tech computer science?

I have done intermediate with PCM. I am interested in B.Tech CS but I have no idea what is programming, but I know computer basics. Can I give my performance better in B.Tech CS?

Yes, it would be preferable to learn basics of computers before starting B.Tech in computers. Basics of C/C+, Java programming will be very useful for the next 4 years.
