The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. WII carries out wildlife research in areas of study like Biodiversity, Endangered Species, Wildlife Policy, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Forensics, Spatial Modeling, Ecodevelopment, and Climate Change. WII has a research facility which includes Forensics, Remote Sensing and GIS, Laboratory, Herbarium, and an Electronic Library. Trained personnel from WII have contributed in studying and protecting wildlife in India. WII has also popularized wildlife studies and careers. The institute is based in Dehradun, India. It is located in Chandrabani, which is close to the southern forests of Dehradun.
The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education also runs the Forest Research Institute and the Indian Institute of Forest Management.

What it needs to become a professional wildlife photographer?
-As a wildlife photographer you often need to travel quite a lot.
-As with most other photographers, the majority of wildlife photographers work as freelancers. This means that they take photographs in hopes of selling them, or they are commissioned to take photographs of certain animals.
-It's a profession that requires a passion for wildlife, nature and conservation, along with in-depth knowledge of the subjects one is after. Constant upgrade of photography skills are a must as is an ability to rough it out on shoots.
-You must be physically fit because you could be spending long periods in very cold, hot or wet conditions waiting for the right shot.
-Digital photography has made it easier for people to pick this up, at least as a hobby at a relatively low cost.
