I would like to sum up the topic : 'Business and Ethics don't go hand in hand' with the past and present notion of business.
As stated by our valuable experts business earlier was more inclined towards money making which has now-a-days taken a full turn and the motive has shifted to advanced concepts which not only cater the mounting awareness of consumers but also gratify their needs leading to increased competition. Advertising has become manipulative and unethical whereas, on the other hand, some feel ethics is based on higher values and business is done to earn a living for self. So, business and ethics can go together.
Now, let us...more -
Written Ability Test (WAT) : Focus on writing skills. Be simple. Use SIMPLE language. Express FLOW of thoughts. No need to really bother much about hi-fi ideas. Simply try to be HONEST and express CURRENT scenario. You can have a MIX, like mix society, humanistic, commerce, economics, science and technology. You can see a DREAM and you can show the DREAM.

Earlier, business was a concept which involved money making, or profit generation, thereby meaning SALES. Now, with the growing awareness of consumers increasing competition, and higher concepts which not only satisfy consumer needs, but also look back to the ethical side of the activity, the concept has switched over to MARKETING (though often, in the garb of truthfulness, advertising is manipulative, which is unethical).
However, those who have indulged in BIG BUSINESSES,i.e. Greatest Good of the Greatest Number, insist that Business and Ethics CAN go together--of course, after teething troubles. In India, we can recount on the story of...more -

A few pointers-
One gets limited time for the Essay so it is very important to manage the time properly.
Spend the first few seconds in thinking about what to write and structuring your thoughts.
Make sure you leave a couple of minutes at least at the end to review what you have written.
The last few minutes can be used to check the flow of the essay-whether the points you have made seem integrated together and also to correct the grammatical errors, small mistakes, errors in syntax etc.
However, one should not try to change too much in the last few minutes. -

As I have gone through IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Lucknow WAT phases, I would like to summarize a few points over here
1. Before the WAT process starts, dont bug your mind with any sort of unnecessary thinking. I have seen people reading a lot just before the process eyeing for details on topics which might not be unfolded.
2. The process starts with 5 to 10 minutes to think. Firstly go through the topic and find out
What is given? - parameters or assumptions
What is asked?
Relate the two and get the essence of the topic.
At times, people do misinterpret the topic in a hurry and everything gets messed up.
Start putting your points on the rough s...more -

2013-01-15 12:39:59Written Ability Test is something where your thinking abilities, abstraction abilities, process mindset abilities, articulation, exposure, intellect, personality and attitude is depicted through your writing. You need to list out the points on rough paper and pick them up in order write on them with your own thinking, information known from media and sources and create a sharp, brief and solid manner conveying all that you wish to express. Your creativity, articulation and abilities to coney the message in simple but unique and accurate manner will get you greater marks. -
Good discussion,
The time duration for writing the essays vary between IIMs.
While IIM Ahmedabad gives us the duration of 10 minutes, IIM Lucknow's Essay Writing duration is 30 minutes. In IIM Bangalore it is for 15 minutes.
Remember there is no word and time limit in WAT. It depends on you how you write in the given amount of time.
Following are the key points to remember while going for WAT.
* Express our subject knowledge with clarity of thoughts,
* Balance flow of ideas properly with good examples (Support our opinions with adequate logic, examples, data and facts.),
* Maintain good handwriting with correct grammar,Make sure that our...more -
The ability to write about something within a short span of time requires a certain amount of intelligence, through which the brain assesses the relevance of the topic, then searches for the data already stored in itself (stored earlier by way of theoretical and practical inputs), and then , within the parameter of the stipulated time frame, starts making specific points to be written down on a piece of paper. For putting it down in writing, again, a feedback of expression, controlled by grammar and correct spellings is vital.
Being aware of the above steps will help the student to make aware of himself. Then, the more important process...more
