It's not based on 12th marks. It's totally based on entrance exams. If you want to get free seat in VIT, you need to be a district topper which makes you a start student getting 100% fee wavier.

The Minimal Percentage for Admission in Colleges like SRM or VIT is 65% PCM. There is no such reduction of the fee on the basis of your 12th Percentage. However you get scholarship based on your SRMJEE rank or your performance through the years in SRM.

Every college has its own scholarship scheme based on 12th percentage. Also, there is a scholarship when you score high marks in its entrance exams. However, in my opinion there will be a minimum of 75% needed in order to be eligible for a scholarship based on 12th. Secondly, there is a scholarship based on semester wise performance. You must check the official website, definitely, you will get the information regarding scholarship.
Best of luck. For any further query please feel free to ask me.
