    Focus on your grades - Focus on your academics and don't let anyone make you believe that marks don't matter. Your primary job as a student is to study and you need to make sure that you perform that duty diligently.

    Explore aspects other than academics - There is no real pressure during the initial days of college and this time should be used to get your hands dirty in diverse activities of interest. Join a society, volunteer, cultivate a new hobby, start a blog, learn a new language - do anything worthwhile with your time. Learn to code even if your from a branch that doesn't involve coding.
