    Both the courses have their own advantages. Microbiology is a specific and narrow field whereas Biotechnology is a vast interdisciplinary course covering various areas of applied Science including Cell biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant biology, Animal cell culture, Stem cell technology, Bioinformatics etc. Microbiology can be considered as part or sub section of Biotechnology. Moreover, there are more job opportunities for Biotechnology graduates in biotech and pharmaceutical sector as compared to Microbiology which are very limited as subject area is very limited.
