What are the career & job prospects in India for Data Analytics?

Data analytics (DA) is the process of examining data sets in order to draw conclusions about the information they contain, increasingly with the aid of specialised systems and software. Data analytics technologies and techniques are widely used in commercial industries to enable organisations to make more-informed business decisions and by scientists and researchers to verify or disprove scientific models, theories and hypotheses. Currently, job opportunities in the field of data analytics are very high. There is a general shortage of DA experts in the market and their current salary level is very high. Most of the jobs for data analytics experts are in BFSI, Healthcare and FMCG companies. Industry looks for computer professionals with domain knowledge for data analytics roles.

Job prospects: The scope of DA is increasing and it would be of great demand in future due to its growth in recent years. Some of the industries are where data analytics can be used are medical/healthcare, manufacturing, finance, retail and e-commerce, IT, etc. One may take up jobs like Data analyst, data scientist, consultant, research associate, Data architect, and other related jobs. Many companies are hiring data analysts. Few of the top companies are Google, Facebook, Wipro, HCL, Verizon, SAP, Amazon, PayPal, TCS, cognizant and counting. Pay scale: As a fresher, one can expect an initial salary of 3-4 lakh per annum. Once you do Masters or acquire the necessary qualifications with good work experience, then one can earn more than 10 lakhs per annum.

Data analytics are broad enough and embeds various subclassified fields like Bigdata Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data visualization, Machine Learning. The opportunity is humongous for such candidates possessing skills into Bigdata Fameworks, SPSS, SAS BI, SAP Hana, Tableau, Python, Neural networks, Artificial intelligence. Silicon Valley giants and Investment banking giants, venture capitalists are major recruiters viz. Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Credit Suisse, Apple, Softbank, KKR group, Samsung, At&T, Cisco, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Ericsson, etc. Starting salaries in the domestic region is 6-9 LPA. For experienced candidates, this goes high up to 20 LPA. With students pursuing B.Tech/M.Tech in computer science from top IITs, NIT, IIITs, the average salary is 15 LPA and ranges as high as 2 Crore.

According to the survey - In terms of cities, Bengaluru accounts for around 25% of analytics jobs in India. Delhi/ NCR comes second contributing 22% analytics jobs in India, down slightly from 23% a year ago. Approximately 17% of analytics jobs are from Mumbai. The contribution of tier-B cities in analytics jobs has increased this year, from 5% in 2016 to 7% this year due to the increased number of start-ups operating in tier 2 cities. Banking & Financial sector continues to be the biggest influencer in Analytics job market. 46% of all jobs posted on analytics were from the banking sector. E-commerce has dipped in terms of analytics jobs this year. Just 10% of analytics jobs were in the e-commerce sector. Media/ entertainment sector seems to have an uptick in analytics jobs this year, contributing to 7% of all analytics jobs. The median salaries being offered by advertised analytics jobs in India is INR 10.5 Lakh/ annum. 28% of all analytics jobs offer a salary range of 6 to 10 Lakhs. Top recruiters of Data Analytics jobs are the IT companies followed by top 4 Finance companies. Many startups in Bengaluru and Delhi/NCR recruits Data Engineers/Analytics in number.
