The scope of CS in India is good. Now it is up to you that how you make your own prospects while doing CS. Choosing your career is personal choice. Talking about popularity, CS has gained a lot of limelight after the passage of Companies Act 2013 and modifications made therein, formation of NCLT and several others Acts. CS is categorized as a Key Managerial Personnel, meaning he/she has the position about equal to the Director/MD of a company. There are people who previously have been CS in a company and gradually rose to the position of MD. Impressive, right? But also, one should have interest in the subject. A company secretary is someone who acts as a moderator between the shareholders, government, regulatory authorities and the company and its board of directors. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) develops and regulates the profession of Company Secretaries in the country. Every company with a paid up capital of Rs. 5 crores or more needs to appoint a whole time company secretary. Company secretaries are more involved in formulating policies for the company, keeping record of all the legal matters, managing public issues, dealing with mergers and acquisitions or joint ventures and the likes. They also act as liaison agents, negotiating with various government bodies. There is huge demand for CS because the number of successful candidates is less than required. According to sources, within ten years, 50,000 CS will be required in India. As a CS, you can either work with a company or you can practice independently. A qualified CS can earn anything between Rs.25,000 to 50,000 in their initial stage. A fresher can easily a salary upto 3 to 5 lacs per annum. A well deserving candidate having profound knowledge of the domain can earn substantially good amount of money. There is a huge demand of Company Secretaries in countries like UK, USA and some western countries. So, one can not only search the options of practicing or working here but also can explore chances to work out of the country.
