What are the career & job prospects in India for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering?

An aircraft maintenance engineer is responsible for the control, maintenance and repair of specialised aircraft instrumentation and related parts of the aircraft. They also learn to set engine controls and to test for their correct functioning. They play a major role among the maintenance personnel to keep the aircraft 'airworthy' at all times. The maintenance of modernly sophisticated aircrafts calls for high degree of technical knowledge, competence, proficiency, dexterity, and integrity on part of the concerned personnel. As airline travel is increasing in India at a great pace, maintenance of aircrafts is equally important and requirement will be more. The minimum eligibility criterion for getting admission into any one of the institutes is 10+2 or equivalent with physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Training is imparted for servicing and maintenance of aircraft to ensure 100 percent flight safety. After completing the course and passing the internal exam, you have to clear the licensing exam conducted by the DGCA. Remuneration in this field is very attractive. In Indian Airlines, Air India, Pawan Hans and other private airlines, engineers get a starting gross salary of about 25,000 to 40,000 pm which goes up to 1.20 Lacs, whereas the total training cost is only around 1.25 Lacs All the best.

Hello, AME is for the students who have cleared their normal engineering and want to do their specialisation in the aviation field. Although, the eligibility for the course is 12th standard. But when you go for a job interview, one with a regular degree has a higher percentage of getting a job. Also, it is not necessary for you to get into some college or institute to get an AME license. In fact, if you are really interested to get into the aviation field, then get a regular college engineering degree (any engineering degree approved by UGC). Enrol yourself for a training programme in Air India or any other institute related to the aviation through your influences, some fee, etc. It takes a minimum of 6 months to get yourself acquainted with the work you are going to get to do. Search for a job. (Believe me, you can get a job in the Indian aviation industry with a regular degree and a basic 6-month training in a reputed company easily than with an AME certification. Apply for Paper I to DGCA, Central Government of India after you have acquired the needed experience through training (forms are easily available, if you Google it). Once you start studying for your first paper, you will get to know everything that is required to survive in the aviation industry.

Aircraft maintenance engineering is not just a degree, it is a training programme. After completing of the training programme, one can get a license from DGCA. The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) deals with construction, repair and maintenance of the plane. AME engineer's main work to check every part of the place to be in working position before it takes off. There are many companies which give a job to AME students such as Indian Airlines, Kingfisher, Jet Airways, Spice Jet, Air India, Sahara and many more. AME student can get starting average salary of 35000 per month and it will increase up to 60000 within 2-years of good work record and it will further increase.

After completion of this course, the candidates can design and test aircraft-related equipment. After the successful completion of a course, the student or applicant can apply for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) license. And only the candidates who successfully clear or pass this exam are issued with Aircraft Maintenance Engineering license. India has very well developed aviation industry and its growing very rapidly. Government has planned to expand both commercial flights and Air logistics transportation to mid-size towns. This expansion program will require lots of Aeronautical personnel. Aeronautical / Aerospace engineers deal with designing new aircraft and its systems, whereas Aircraft Maintenance Engineering deals with the repair of these aircraft. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) courses are designed to train and sill students in Mechanical Stream and Avionics stream of engineering professionals for Aviation Industry. The aircraft engineers mainly deal with the construction, repair and maintenance of the aircraft. AME graduates with DGCA license are employed by Government and Private airlines, corporate, Public/ Private Aviation organization. It is highly rewarding and high paying career option.
