What are the career & job prospects in India for Ground Operations?

Ground operations staff sometimes referred as ground crew has vast and varied duties to perform. The ground crew is responsible for – Handling all the loading and uploading of the passenger luggage from the aircraft. Directing the landed aircraft to taxi spots. Providing services such as steps from the aircraft for passengers and crew to disembark the aircraft. Loading food and beverage in the aircraft. Preparation of the flight plan, fuel, weather condition and other important information. The eligibility criteria for Ground operations crew is 10+2. IATA provides diploma in ground operations and the candidates with diploma are preferred. One can become a ground operations manager after gaining some years of experience.

Ground operations team play a major role in running the airplanes with ramp planner and flight dispatchers. Ground operators control the aircraft at the airport as well in aerodrome. These operators ensure an easy way of running the aircraft in ground safe parking. They also check the correct loading of cargo, the baggage of passengers and the quantity of fuel during running. In India, IATA certifies students for this job and give them training on a regular basis. As the use of flight has increased and more and more people are traveling from planes these days, the requirement of these operators who ensure the easy running and no delay in the flight time has increased. These aspirants can get a job in any airport by applying for the same or they can also get into this job by various agencies who allot these operators into airports ex- Bird Worldwide Flight Service, All India SATS, Globe Ground India. These operators get a job easily within a salary range of Rs 3 to 4 Lakhs per annum.

Hello, In India, as per the data of passenger traffic released by bureau of civil aviation, passenger traffic is showing an increase of 15% to 20% year on year. In addition, plans made public by the private airlines also indicate that these airlines have placed huge orders for purchase of aircraft. Once these aircraft start arriving, requirement of personnel for Ground Operations is bound to increase. As a matter of fact, all these airlines have already started the preparations for induction of these personnel, their training etc. In addition to this, air cargo handling capacity too needs to be enhanced, since this sector is growing more rapidly than passenger traffic. Here too, Ground Operations staff, albeit in lower numbers, is required. One can easily say that job prospects for Ground Handling in India is slated to grow exponentially in years to come.
