What are the career opportunities after B.Sc in IT?

After completing B.Sc in IT, you van either get a job or opt for further studies: 1) Job After completing B.Sc in IT, you can seek jobs through your college by campus recruitment or by giving interviews in various firms. As a graduate in the field of IT, which happens to be a great spectrum, you can work as the system analyst, database administrator, web programmer or you can even in a BPO i.e call center. The salary depends on the marks during graduation as well as the aptitude of the person, but the salary will be between 1,00,000 to 3,80,000 lakh rupees which happen to be pretty good as a starting salary for a non-experienced IT graduate. 2) Higher Studies Here I will cover 3 possibilities, Post Graduate, Management and Study abroad. Post Graduation (M.Sc in IT) Here comes the main Query which majority of the people have. In the post-graduation, a B.Sc in IT graduate can do M.Sc in the same field. Now, job-wise M.Sc is preferred by people who want to go into the research or the teaching field. M.Sc is a 2 year course but believe me, putting that 1 year extra can get you a lakh extra in the first annual salary. 3) Master of Business Administration (MBA) : Now, one can do MBA even after post-graduation but doing it right after your Bachelor's degree will give you a great edge and catapult you to a high paying job of a manager much Faster. I would recommend you to go for MBA in IT which would give you a better edge than the M.Sc. MBA IT is offered by many college including the famous Symbiosis Institute in Pune. After completing MBA, you can work as a project manager where you can draw a salary of about Rs. 5-6 lakhs per year. And experience of 2 years can even get you Rs. 7-8 lakhs per year. 4) Study abroad: If studying abroad is an option for you, then I would recommend either UK or USA as they are the best scope in the IT field and offer the highest salaries too. The US needs 16 years education while UK allows 15 years. Now a B.Sc in IT graduate will have completed 15 years of education so his only option is UK where the MS that is Master of Science in IT which is equivalent to a PG degree in engineering is only of a year. The total cost including the college fee, hostel charges, etc., will be around Rs 10 lakhs but once you complete it, the jobs pay you about Rs 10-12 lakhs per year so it can easily be recovered. Bachelor of Science in IT itself is not recommended. Don't expect great things merely from Bachelor of Science course. This is a very basic course and would not offer any good job. The career prospect is slightly dim only with a Bachelor of Science. In the private sector, I would say that you can apply for a job in BPO with this qualification. Most of the IT companies would not offer a job with a graduation degree unless it is B.Tech. There can be a good scope in the government sector. You can appear for Civil Service Examination or the IBPS (Bank PO). Both require candidates with graduation in any stream and percentage is not an issue. If you aim to work for any IT firm then you should start considering post graduation degree. I would recommend MCA (Master of Computer Applications) or M.Sc IT as these courses would open the doors of MNC and IT firms for you. There is another option i.e. MBA in IT.
