Some are as follow - Cartographer Environmental consultant Town planner Geographical information systems officer Conservation officer Recycling officer Landscape architect Teacher/lecturer. The key is to get into a good university/college. LPU exposes its students to theoretical rigor, fieldwork and research, along with social sensitization through opportunities to interact with and learn from the outside world. To make students more aware of socio-political and spatio-historical aspects of the real world situations, regular guest lectures, workshops and site visits are conducted. She told me that Faculty and students of Psychology and Sociology department visited PRAYAS, an NGO for the disabled children and PAHAL an NGO running a special school for the working children. LPU is the only one university which has been successfully turn the traditionally academic programs into professional ones by inculcating: 1. Employability matrices. 2. Professional enhancement 3. Try and get work experience in your chosen field to get an insight into the work available and to establish contacts. Fieldwork is a useful way of developing your practical skills and gaining hands-on experience, valued by employers. The geography graduates are employed in a wide range of sectors, including the public sector, education, commerce, industry, transport and tourism. They have excellent transferable skills, which also attract employers from the business, law and finance sectors. The field of geography offers several career options with numerous specializations. Cartography - geographers who specialize in this make maps, charts, globes and models. Survey - geographers can specialize in surveying, either by joining the Survey of India or state Survey Departments or Private organizations. Surveyors map the surface of the earth through mathematical observations and field work. Urban and Regional Planning - (Qualification required: geography graduates or post graduates) this specialization is concerned with planning, housing and development projects with respect to their location and utilization of available land space. There are degree courses available in this stream. Town Planning - (Qualification required: Post Graduates in geography) They are employed by public and private organizations engaged in urban planning and design and by NGOs involved in rural development projects. Many universities are offering Diploma courses in the specialized field of Town Planning.
