Hi, Career options for students who have finished their graduation in history are quite high. They can go for advanced studies or get jobs. Those who would like to pursue their studies can go for Master’s degree in the same field. Students can also appear for the UPSC or the state wide PSC tests. They can also appear for the SSC tests. Those who like the teaching profession can get the B.Ed (after BA) or M.Ed (after MA) degree and apply for teacher or lecturer positions. Many other job options are available too. A few include: Archivists Information Managers Librarians Politician Public Relations officer Records Managers They can even appear for Bank tests and get jobs as Probationary Officers or Clerks, or work with newspapers or magazines. Students of history with a professional degree in journalism can get jobs with magazines like Business India, Outlook and National Geographic Magazine, etc. For work abroad: For work as a programme researcher at organisations such as the BBC, a subject based degree, such as history, may be more useful than having studied media production skills. Producers often look for applicants with specific subject knowledge relating to programme content. The students those who have completed their graduation in History can find lucrative career opportunities in the research field. Students those who opt for archeology course after their graduation can get employed as an archeologist. They have plenty of job opportunities in parks and historical museums. B.A History graduates can find employment in both public and private sector organisations. Some Areas are: Teaching, Law, Research, Diplomacy, Public service, Journalism, Ministry, Insurance, Politics and Publishing. After a PG in history candidates race eligible for a lot of government jobs such as: The candidate has to undergo certain competitive exams to get in to various posts in Central Government departments. The aspirants have to attend and score well in the exams carried out by SSC or UPSC to get in to the same. This enables them to obtain jobs in centralized Banks, Telecom, Military, Educational sectors etc. To get in to post of Lecturer or Research assistants the candidate has to quality NET examination carried out by UGC. The postgraduates in History can get into different departments under State Government through competitive test carried out by Public Service Commission. The candidates have to apply and prepare well to get through these examinations. State tourism, Archeology, Research, Museums, etc. are some employment areas under State Government sector where the candidates can get placement. The Railway Recruitment Board carries out recruitment test for the selection of candidates in to the various vacancies in the Railway department.
