What are the career prospects in India and abroad after the completion of a UG/PG course in Social Work ?

With a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, you can qualify for some of the following position titles: Behavioral Management Aide. Case Management Aide. Community Outreach Worker. Juvenile court Liaison. Probation officer. Rehabilitation Case Worker. Eligibility Worker. Human Services Specialist. Graduates in social work are recruited by government mainly in community development projects. The community development programs under government supervision mainly concentrate on rural development, education and health. The public sector also offers job openings in child, woman and tribal welfare programs put forward by government. Students in social work can also find employment in different government owned industries. Another good alternative for social workers is to work with government agencies for environmental protection and conservation. Other areas where they can work are: Hospitals Clinics Counseling Centers Mental Hospitals Old Age Homes Prisons Correction Cells To obtain teaching jobs in government sector the candidate has to undergo higher studies in the area. A post graduate degree in social work along with a NET qualification is enough to appear for competitive exams meant for selection of faculty in Colleges offering courses on social work. Higher qualifications such as M. Phil and PhD are much more desirable to obtain a teaching job in educational sector.

They comprise of: Child, Family and School Social Workers Medical and Public Health Workers Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Workers Other types of social workers consist of people, who are involved in planning and policy making, administration etc. Some of the job roles include: Counselors, Criminology Specialists, Executive Officer, Labor Welfare Specialists, Probation Officer, Researcher, Social Security Officer, Social Worker, Teacher, Trainee Officer Salaries of people who are involved in social service are generally low. This is because of the aim to make it beneficial for the society and not to get profit. However the payouts has been on the rise due to the corporate social incorporation initiatives between firms that benefit both the corporate and communities together. The minimum salary of a social worker will be as much as Rs. 8.000/- to Rs. 8000/-. This will vary on the base of the firm that takes in individuals in addition to the sector they are involved.
