Food technology deals with food science and technologies being used to transform raw ingredients into food. Food technology consists of methods such as preservation, packaging, and distribution to provide clean and nutritious food for the consumption of humans and animals. Food technology is having very large business all over the world and professionals in this field deals with the quality of food being served to the people. Food processing is the largest in India and India comes 5th in terms of production, consumption, export, and import. The food industry is growing and it can be seen on the rise from the US $100 billion to US $ 300 billion. Food technology is been increased from 43% to 50% in recent years as more and more consumption is being done by the people. Opportunities: The options and opportunities in this field are plenty. Food production is a stream where candidates learn to prepare raw food items into edible food by processing vegetables, meats and fishes. They also learn various cooking methods in this course. Food production is one of the sectors which is growing day by day as people have knowledge of good food these days. The food industry is growing vastly in India and there are several opportunities for budding chefs to work on their passion in different cuisines, different restaurants and different hotels. On the other hand, this industry has already flourished abroad and is still growing there is no stopping to the food industry as it is the basic need of every human being. Indian chefs have good opportunities to go and work in different countries, depending upon the experience and on the mettle of the candidate.

Food Production is a course in which student learn techniques and method to convert raw food item into processed food. They learn about processing, preservation, manufacturing, packaging, and canning of various food items, as there is increase of packaged food, which results in increase in the demand of Food production graduate. There are more scope in India and abroad for these graduate. Many Company such as Dabur, ITC, Agro tech food, Cadbury, PepsiCo and many other food processing company offer jobs to these graduate. They get job in Food processing companies, food research laboratories, Hospitals, Catering establishments, Food Wholesalers, and Restaurants. Starting salary for these graduate is Rs. 3 to 4 lakh per annum, but after few years of experience in this field, one can get high paid job.
