What are the differences and similarities between M.Com and MBA and why should one choose M.Com rather than MBA and vice-versa?

    Both are master courses and depend upon individual. If you looking for management related career MBA is ideal. If you keen for pursuing teaching, PhD, M.Com is better though one can opt for PhD post MBA as well. For MBA, entrance exams are conducted to get into reputed institute with good placements. Admission in M.Com is mostly based upon your graduation score. Assess your likes, interest, aptitude and choose and one may also opt M.Com side by side with job after graduation and then pursue MBA in case you seek to do both the degrees.

    MBA is better, looking at its wide field of prospects. But, it always should go by your interests. MBA graduates are required to handle managerial finance positions like analysts. MBA with Finance major will open wide scope for a student in corporate. I am a student of Doon Business School, Dehradun and I have seen MBA Finance people have grabbed packages as high as Rs 23.5 lacs.

    Ideally, people opt for M.com if they want to get into the teaching field and MBA if they want to get into corporate field. One can choose any of these depending on one's interest and career preference.

    Similarities:
    1) Both are post graduate Master's program.
    2) Both are 2 year academic program.
    Differences:
    1) To get admission in MBA, one has to clear a competitive exam, whereas in M.Com, open test is not required.
    2) MBA gives exposure to business, whereas M.Com only focus on the financial /accounting aspect of business.
    3) The scope of career growth is much higher in MBA than M.Com.
    4) The availability of job opportunities are much in MBA than M.Com.

    Hi,
    There are some common things in both the degrees:
    1. Both are post graduate degree and can only be completed after completing a degree.
    2. M.Com is related to commerce and accountancy stream including computers and you may choose accounting and computer/ IT in MBA as well.
    There are some differences between both of these degrees:
    1. MBA has more reputation than M.Com at present time.
    2. MBA is preferred by lakhs of candidates every year from various streams including, commerce too.
    3. MBA is considered as one of the best Master's degree and professional course in the world.

    MBA is a professional course. You need to score minimum 50% in graduation to pursue MBA. MBA in finance graduates prefers M.Com along with CA. It offer higher packages.
