Hey there. I'm a student of VIT chennai, and I've been to the vellore campus several times. Both campuses are really awesome places to hangout. But the vellore campus is really huge and u can explore more. The vellore campus is like a small town fitted with almost everything u need. A place where u can have fun both externally and study wise. The Chennai campus is famous because it's a green campus with a varietal of flowers and it's uniform structural design, unlike he vellore campus. The mess in the chennai campus is one huge disadvantage. But when it comes to studies and exposure u get in it, both campuses provide the best equally!

The only and most dreadful disadvantage of joining the Chennai campus rather than the Vellore is the environment, the people you find in Vellore is far more interesting in their respective field than the Chennai campus.

Chennai campus is just an extension of Vellore Campus.
And by the way, Vellore is better known for VIT, as the name also suggests.
    So, go for Vellore.

Both are same in terms of education, but VIT, Vellore has better facilities.
