The WBCS Prelims question paper consists of eight sections, each carrying 25 marks, for a total of 200 marks. The eight sections are:

    • English Composition
    • General Science
    • Current Events of National and International Importance
    • History of India (Ancient, Medieval, Modern)
    • Geography of India with special reference to West Bengal
    • Indian Polity and Economy
    • Indian National Movement
    • General Mental Ability

Prelims exam is an objective type test with 200 multiple-choice questions and has a duration of 2.5 hours. It serves as a screening test, and the marks obtained do not contribute to the final selection process
