The eligibility criteria and language requirements for applying to different programs offered to international students at the University of Tennessee are given below:
Eligibility for Undergraduate Applicants
International students interested in undergraduate courses should have completed their schooling. Students will have to present the official transcripts of high school and intermediate certificates.
Besides schooling, the university also asks international students to take an English proficiency test. Since India is not recognised by the University of Tennessee as an Official English Language Nation, students will have to take an English proficiency test. Some undergraduate courses may also have specific requirements, such as a Math assessment test or other tests.
Eligibility for Postgraduate Applicants
Postgraduate applicants must present their undergraduate and schooling certificates to get enrolled. Indian applicants are also subjected to English proficiency tests and course-specific tests (if applicable). A course-by-course evaluation from selected companies is also required for international students who have completed their undergraduate course outside the United States.
Country-Specific Requirements for Indian Applicants
The Indian education system is different from the United States model. If students have completed their schooling outside the United States, the university evaluates their performance separately.
For Indian students, an academic core grade point average is evaluated by Tennessee. The academic core grade point average is calculated considering the grades of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th.
For postgraduate courses, Indian students must have completed a 4-year bachelor’s course with a minimum credit of 3 on a scale of 4.0. For any graduate work, students should have earned a minimum of 3.3 credits on a scale of 4.0.
English Requirements for International Students
International students coming from non-English-speaking countries, such as India, need to prove their language proficiency through either of the standardized English exam scores. The prescribed tests for admission at the University of Tennessee and their required scores are:
