What are the job prospects in India as well as overseas for Chemical Engineering?

Hi, As a chemical engineering student, I would be sharing the facts that I have come across through seniors and grand seniors from the same branch. A chemical engineer is involved in the process of designing and development of a varied range of products. He applies his technical skills to convert the raw materials into the useful products. . Major sectors for chemical engineers are: - oil and gas - energy - pharmaceuticals - Fibres and textiles - material (polymers) - waste management - nanotechnology - waste water treatment (more trending nowadays) . In India, you get an average package of 4-5 LPA initially in private companies and 8-10 LPA in PSUs. But definitely, you get a very healthy package in Gulf countries. . Some of the top notch companies recruiting chemical engineers include: DuPont, Bayer, BASF, Shell, Schlumberger, Henkel, Reliance, Petrofac, Baker Hughes, Pidilite, United Phosphorus, Dow chemicals, Essar oil, Toyo engineering, etc. . Most of them recruit in India as well. Additionally, there are public sector undertakings (PSUs) in India which recruit chemical engineers through GATE exam. Some of these PSUs are HPCL, IOCL, BPCL, ONGC, EIL, HAL, GAIL, OIL, RCF, etc.

Hi, Employment of chemical engineers is projected to grow 2 percent from 2014 to 2024, slower than the average for all occupations. Demand for chemical engineers services depends largely on demand for the products of various manufacturing industries. The ability of these engineers to stay on the forefront of new emerging technologies will sustain employment growth. Many chemical engineers work in industries that have output sought by many manufacturing firms. For instance, they work for firms that manufacture plastic resins, used to increase fuel efficiency in automobiles. Increased availability of domestically produced natural gas should increase manufacturing potential in the industries employing these engineers. In addition, chemical engineering is migrating into new fields, such as nanotechnology, alternative energies, and biotechnology, thereby helping to sustain demand for engineering services in many manufacturing industries. However, overall growth of employment will be tempered by a decline in employment in manufacturing sectors, including chemical manufacturing. Chemical Engineers Job Prospects The need to find alternative fuels to meet increasing energy demand while maintaining environmental sustainability will continue to require the expertise of chemical engineers in oil- and gas-related industries. In addition, the integration of chemical and biological sciences and rapid advances in innovation will create new areas in biotechnology and in medical and pharmaceutical fields for them to work in. Thus, those with a background in biology will have better chances to gain employment. Chemical engineers should have favorable job prospects as many workers in the occupation reach retirement age from 2014 to 2024. All the best.

As a final year chemical engineering student, I think this is the most beautiful field of engineering. Job availability in this fields is good. In India, jobs are there but of some minimum packages. Often few government industries like Hpcl, OICL, GAIL, shall offer packages up to an average of 10 lacs. But, coming to private sectors, engineers work in production, design and process control industries. Most private production industries like Jindal steel, Supreme, Lupin, Berger paints, Asian paints offer packages for freshers up to 4 lacs. So that gives an idea about the fresher. But when this fresher becomes a 5-years experienced person, he will get much paid by those industries. This is the condition about the jobs for chemical engineering in India. Coming to overseas, the most no. jobs available for chemical enginers are in United States. They need more chemical engineers as they are involving in more production rates. Doing postgraduation in the US often gives an average of 2-3 Lacs per month. This is the difference in India and United States for job availability. Honeywell, PepsiCo, reliance industries, petroleum based Refineries are the dream organisations for chemical engineers.
