    If you are a general candidate, you are required to be in the top 1000 to stand a fair chance in getting selected although lower ranks do get admission. Trend varies from year to year and it is better, if you wait for the counselling rounds to occur at a time and observe the consequent pattern, but generally a high rank as specified is required.
